Billie Lorene Cunningham's Obituary
Born in Raymond, Washington to William and Opal Stairs, Billie was a 1945 graduate of Lincoln High School in Tacoma. During World War II she served as a member of the WAVE Reserve. In 1950 she married Bill Cunningham, starting a union which would last 59 years until Bill's death in 2009. Billie worked 18 years for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a steno clerk, and retired in 1992 from the Tacoma School District, where she worked in Library Services. Billie will be remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother. She always supported her family's activities, enjoying many long concerts, meetings, and sporting events. She always knew the score and took great delight in a victory. She was a recipient of the Golden Acorn Award from the Arlington Elementary School PTA. Billie was a lifelong Christian who supported Manitou, South Tacoma, and Trinity Presbyterian Churches. She taught Sunday School, tutored children, and served as both an Elder and a Deacon. Family gatherings, travel, and gardening were some of her favorite activities. Her family was very important in her life, and Easter will not be the same without watching teenagers look for the Golden Egg. Most of all, she would like everybody to remember to look on the Bright Side.
Services will be held at 3:00 PM May 15, 2010 in the Mountain View Aspen Chapel, reception following. The family thanks the staff of Wynwood of Allenmore and the Multicare-Good Samaritan Hospice for their considerate and professional care. Donations may be made in Billie's name to the charity of your choice.
