Beverly Rush's Obituary
Beverly died peacefully at home Sunday, September 16, 2018. She was born in May 1930 to Judd and Rilla Warner. She graduated from both Stadium High School and College of Puget Sound, where she met her husband of 59 years, Ray Sam Rush. They graduated together in 1952.
Beverly was an authority on textile arts, an accomplished artist, and a published author of books and many articles in arts periodicals. She was the editor of the Flying Needle Journal, part of the national group “Council of American Embroiderers”. She was also very active with “Unorganized Embroiders” and Nesica. Bev was engaged in various community commitments, especially related to the arts such as teaching a Children’s Art Workshop.
Bev shared a love of boating with her husband Ray, and they spent many weekends and summers with family and friends exploring the many ports of Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands and Victoria, BC on their beloved Tollycraft boat. Bev knew all of the dock masters by name and enjoyed keeping up on their lives and interests.
Bev had a love for adventure, travel and exploring new cultures and travelled widely through the years, first with her husband and later with her family and grand children venturing from Southeast Asia, to Africa, India, Egypt and Europe by land, and enjoying the sights of Europe, Alaska, and Mexico cruising with her grandsons. Her home was filled with lovely memories collected from her travels.
Bev’s four grandsons were the joy of her life. She was passionate about reading the books they read, following their studies, and staying on top of their journeys as they ventured out into post graduate years. She loved to have long in-depth discussions with them on a regular basis. She enjoyed creating specific celebratory cards for them with lovely passages she’d write to share her thoughts and beliefs.
Beverly is survived by her daughter, Cindy, and four grandsons, Judd and Andy Rush and Corey and Sam Grady as well as several nieces, nephews and grandnieces & grandnephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Ray Rush, her sons Stephen and Paul Rush, and Brother Larry Warner (Betty).
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at 2 pm in the Aspen Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Lakewood, WA with a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to YWCA Pierce County Children’s Program or Mary Bridge Children’s Foundation for Adolescent Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit.
