Beverly J. Dessen's Obituary
Beverly J. Dessen, who was born February 10, 1939 in Pueblo, Colorado, passed away at her home in University Place, Washington on March 25, 2004, after a courageous two-year battle with ovarian cancer. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Mark, daughter Anita Cohen(Mike) and granddaughter Shiban Williamson (Matt). She retired after 33 years as a school bus driver for the University Place School District. During the last 15 years of her driving career, she felt privileged to transport special education students. Her gift of love and compassion was shown daily to the students and their families. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, quilting and traveling. Of all the places that she traveled, she most loved the island of Kaua'i. Mark and Bev went there at least once a year for the last 30 years. She had many cherished memories of their time spent on the island, and they made many lasting friendships. Bev would never want the people that knew and loved her to grieve; instead, she would want us to celebrate the love and joy that she brought to this world. A very special thank you to Dr. Thomas Baker and his staff for their loving, compassionate and supportive care during her battle with ovarian cancer. Also, a huge thank you to Franciscan Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to the Franciscan Hospice, PO Box 1502, Tacoma, WA 98401-9836; or Guilda's Club Seattle, 1400 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122-3809. A reception/lunch will be held on Saturday, April 3, from noon- 2:00 p.m. at Mama Stortini's Ristorante, 3715 Bridgeport Way in University Place, Washington.
