Betty Lou Watts' Obituary
Betty Lou Watts, 86, of Renton, Washington, flew to Jesus’ loving arms on September 20, 2016. Born in Axtell, Kansas on December 16, 1929, Betty’s family moved to South Dakota when she was a toddler. She was a long-time resident of Hot Springs, South Dakota and a 1947 graduate of Hot Springs High School. Betty attended and was involved in the Church of Christ in Hot Springs and in her later years attended Springbrook Church of Christ in Renton, Washington. Betty ran her own business, Betty’s Gems, for 20 years and an avid gardener her entire life. She was a member and an officer of the Picture City Gem and Mineral Society and very involved in the organizations’ annual Rock Show for 22 years. Betty was a founding member of the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs and gave guided tours when the site was first discovered and being unearthed. Betty was also involved in the Girl Scouts and a leader for several years. Her energy and enthusiasm were boundless and she poured herself into everything she did. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed the many trips they took together.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Eva Benson, and by her brother, LeRoy Benson. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Connie Clifton Watts, Jr., two sisters, Carol Kryger and Rosie Peters, one brother, Dick Benson, her daughter Susan Storton (Edward), two grandchildren, Kari Storton (Thomasina) and Christopher Storton (Jessica) and great-granddaughter, Sadie Rose Storton.
Betty’s family would like to thank her church families, her physician, Dr. Margaret Gaines and Evergreen Health Hospice Care, especially Sue and Joe, for their kindness and attentiveness.
A Committal Service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery, Friday, September 30, 2016 at 9:30 AM. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Springbrook Church of Christ in Renton, Washington, Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Remembrances may be shared at www.mountainviewtacoma.com
