Betty M. Adler's Obituary
Betty Marie Satterlee Adler passed peacefully into our heavenly Father's arms November 5th, 2011. Born to Marie and Oren Satterlee in Tacoma, WA on December 16, 1926, Betty was raised in Fircrest and graduated from Stadium High School in 1946. She married Robert Adler soon after and balanced her family life with her career, with positions at the Bon Marche and later at Nordstrom's as a manager/buyer. She earned her degree from Clover Park Technical College and spent the last ten years of work at Tacoma General Hospital.
Whether it was rafting down the Truckee River or walking the beaches of the Hawaiian islands, Betty loved to travel. When her three children were young, she and Bob would take them camping along the Oregon and Washington Coasts, and up to Mt. Shasta. And for thirteen years in later life, she and her husband would spend winters in Palm Springs.
Her family will always remember her fondly for her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. For her three children and six grandchildren, she was a source of guidance, comfort, and unconditional love. As her children grew up and had children of their own, Betty loved to host gatherings at their Gig Harbor beach home. The holidays were always a highlight, especially for the grandkids. Fond are the memories of her beautifully decorated Christmas trees and the ever-present miniature winter village that decorated her living room. And her Thanksgiving meals were always extravagant events. She embraces her role as mother and grandmother with all her heart.
Betty was preceded by her parents, mother-in-law Elizabeth Adler, and father-in-law John Adler. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Bob Adler Sr., her sons Bill and Bob Jr., and her daughter Beckie. She also leaves5 grandsons, Jonathan, Tom, Andrew, R.J., Kevin; and one granddaughter, Amy; and daughters-in-law Amanda Allpress Adler and Tori Rogel Schneider. Remembrances may be made to Tacoma Sunrise Rotary Scholarship Fund, PO Box 900, Tacoma, WA 98401 or Mary Bridge Children's Foundation, PO Box 5296, Tacoma, WA 98415.
