Betty J. Porter's Obituary
Betty Jean Staab, daughter of Herbert Charles McKinley Staab and Leona Ruth Stayton was born on 17 April, 1926 at Oregon City, Clackamas Co., Oregon. She died at home in Lakewood Washington on May 29, 2005 after long illnesses. She attended Willamette University at Salem, Oregon and the University of Oregon Medical School Department of Nursing Education at Portland, Oregon where she earned a B.S. degree. Later she received her RN certificate from the Oregon State Board of Nursing Examiners. Among her achievements prior to rearing a family, she became a head nurse at the State of Oregon Psychiatric Hospital and held nursing positions at hospitals and for private doctors in Everett and Longview, Washington. She married Edward T. Porter on 7 June, 1947 at Salem, Oregon. The Porters have made homes in Portland and Salem, Oregon, and Longview, Everett and Lakewood, Washington. Betty is survived by her husband Ed; two children; Dr. Gregory G. Porter (Cheryl) of Tigard, Oregon, and Diane E. Barnes (Steve) of Seattle, Washington; and four grandchildren and one step-grandchild; Justin E. Barnes, Cavan J. Barnes, Sydney N. Porter, Austin S. Porter and Beau J. Nicholson. Betty will be remembered as an exceptional nurse, a devoted friend, and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and aunt. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Alzheimer¹s Research or Pancreatic Cancer Research are suggested. The family wishes to thank MultiCare Hospice for their loving support in recent days. As she requested, there will be no funeral. A private family inurnment service will take place at the Columbarium at Christ Church, Episcopal, in Tacoma, Washington. A reception for friends and family will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, June 4, 2005 in the Mountain View Celebration of Life Center, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W.
