Betty Josephine Gjurash
August 4, 1931 – April 22, 2025
Betty J. Gjurash, affectionately known as Aunty Betty, passed away on April 22, 2025 at the age of 93. Born in San Diego, CA on August 4, 1931 to Edward and Florence Pugh, Betty moved to Tacoma where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950. She married Anthony Gjurash and later divorced, and is preceded in death by her longtime partner, Fred Wiess.
Betty found her calling in accounting and earned her Bachelor of Business Degree in 1977 while working as the Controller at Pacific Lutheran University. She later retired as the Civilian Comptroller at Naval Submarine Base Bangor in 1990.
In her retirement, Betty enjoyed traveling and gardening, finding joy in these activities throughout her later years. She shared a lifelong friendship with her sister Mary Seymour, and after Mary's passing in 2006, Betty formed a close bond with her niece, Christine Seymour, who became a source of comfort and support for Betty.
Three years ago, Betty moved to Wesley Bradley Park where she found a sense of home, care, and friendship that enriched her life. She will be laid to rest alongside her sister, Mary Seymour, at Mineral Cemetery in Mineral, WA.
Betty is survived by her niece, Christine Seymour, nephews Ron Seymour, Tom Seymour, Lawrence Seymour and spouses and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Betty's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
