Betty Lou Flieg's Obituary
Mrs. Betty Lou Flieg, beloved wife to Lt. Colonel Stanley W. Flieg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital. Betty was born on December 19, 1923 to Frieda and Ellis Bradley in St. Louis, MO. After 94 fabulous years of life, she now lives eternally in her young, pain free body and most excitingly, has reunited with her beloved “fly boy”, Stan, whom she married in 1942. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all. We lost the Matriarch of our family.
Betty was a devoted Catholic living her faith in her words, actions and personal relationships. She reached out to others who were in need. She was selfless, always putting the needs of others before her own. Mom was a Catholic Daughter and was passionate about volunteering. She dedicated her time to so many causes, to include being a Room Mother, PTA Board Member, American Red Cross Volunteer (35 years), a volunteer intake processor at the Fort Lewis Thrift Store (30 years) as well as a volunteer at the Pierce County Election Polls, to name just a few.
She admitted to being “a sucker” for kids and animals. For every free calendar or chachki she received in the mail, a donation was sent. Her compassion and loving heart is truly one in a million. Her presence will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Betty is survived by her daughters Sandra Walters, Debbie Gerzsenye, Kimberly Morlan, Christie Whitney and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members.
Rosary will be held at 10:30am at St. Francis Cabrini Church in Lakewood with Mass to follow at 11am on Friday, November 2. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the Squire Hall (next to the church). A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Tacoma at 3:30pm. All are welcome to join…
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation be made in her name to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
