Betty J. Cottler's Obituary
Betty was born in Tacoma, Washington on December 31, 1927 and passed away in her sleep on November 5, 2022. She lived her entire life in the Northwest. She graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma and attended The University of Puget Sound for one year before going to work for the Internal Revenue Service. She married Donald Cottler, also born in Tacoma, in 1951 and lived in Fircrest, Washington until after Don’s death in 1990. She had two sons, Allen P. Cottler and David D. Cottler both graduates of Wilson High School and The University of Puget Sound.
After Allen was born Betty became a homemaker and volunteered as a braille specialist for the Tacoma School District converting text books to braille for the students. She spent many years meeting with other Telephone Company Pioneers while working on brailling. She spent her last 16 years at Spiritwood at Pine Lake in Issaquah, Washington where she enjoyed the other residents and was a fixture by the fireplace keeping an eye on what was going on.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Don and son Allen. She is survived by David (wife Susan Cottler) and her grandchildren Christopher Cottler (Stephanie) and Kaitlyn Bate (Jon) and 4 great grandchildren.
Betty will be buried alongside Don and Allen at Mountain View Memorial Park in Tacoma and there will be a family-only ceremony at an undetermined future date.
