Bettie E. Jackson's Obituary
Mrs. Bettie E. Jackson passed on May 17, 2015. Mrs. Jackson was born June 16, 1919 in Kemper County, Mississppi. Mrs. Jackson was a member of St. James AME Church in Indianola, MS. She moved to Detroit MI in the early 1940s joining Ebenezer AME Church in 1941. She was an active member of numerous auxiliaries while at Ebenezer to include both Stewardess & Deaconess Boards, June Birthday Club, Missionary Society, Progressive Usher Board and a Class Leader.
Mrs. Jackson also was active in her Detroit community serving on the Goddard Street Block Club, recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the Detroit Police Department Precinct #11, a member of the National Council of Negro Women and the International Women’s League for Peace and Freedom. Mrs. Jackson moved to Tacoma WA in 2002 and joined Allen AME Church where she worshiped serving on the Ellen Kellum Women’s Missionary Society and as a Deaconess.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her daughter Pier Jackson Mitchell; grandsons, Vernon Mitchell and Jackson Mitchell; sister Ruby Webb, great-granddaughters, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives. Interment will be at Detroit Memorial Park.
Services for Bettie E. Jackson will be held at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church – Detroit, MI on Monday, June 1, 2015. The Rev. Dr. Markarl Thomas will officiate. Mrs. Jackson was 95 years young..
