Bessie T. Horst Age 91, passed away in the presence of some of her family members in Tacoma, WA, on April 2, 2014. Born in Pawtucket, RI November 21, 1922 to Peter and Georgia Thomas, she married Albert Horst on August 22, 1937 in Anaconda, MT, and they shared 72 good years together at their home in South Tacoma. After earning her LPN license, Bessie was a surgical nurse at Northern Pacific Hospital in Tacoma for many years, and continued with that organization when they changed locations to Puget Sound Hospital. After retirement, Bessie and Albert traveled and shared great times at Lake Cushman with family. She loved people, the outdoors, and her many friends. She was a talented painter, and crocheted many afghans and intricate doilies. She loved to read. And she made and shared the best sugar cookies ever. She was a member of Visitation Parish, several camping clubs, the Eagles, and various Bingo facilities. Mom was preceded in death by Albert in 2009, and shortly after moved to The Village in Tacoma, WA. She was very happy there, made many wonderful friends, and took advantage of all the activities offered. She loved the staff and residents. In the last few years she was excited to travel to Boston and St. Louis to visit family, enjoy new sights, and make more friends. She is survived by her children Rudy, Robert, Darlene, and Gary, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visitation Catholic School or Franciscan Hospice.
