Bessie Banks was a lovely, beautiful woman, who worked very hard throughout her life. She didn't drive so taking the bus to work was a daily routine for her. I never heard a word of complaint from her about working so hard for so many years. I grew up with her children, Larry, Diane and Brenda. In fact, we were inseparable for many years. I remember that there were beans and grits on the stove 24/7, which was a yummy treat any time someone came to Bessie's home. Her husband, Bennie, loved to dance and would put on Nat King Cole records for us - I loved that jazz. Bessie was the most feminine woman - I admired her care for the family clothing when I was a kid. She was always washing and ironing to keep everyone well groomed. She even ironed underwear, which for me was remarkable! Bessie was very devoted to her family. She lived in a small house with a nice yard, where she grew her garden vegetables. When the kids were growing up they had a darling black dog, who was also an important part of the family - his name started with a "B" too but I can't remember it now. I never heard a harsh word from Bessie - she was a real lady. She was stunningly beautiful and had a wonderful smile and laugh. I'm sorry to hear of her passing, but I would love to hear from her children if they read this message. - Pamela Roberts ([email protected])
