Bernice Zimmerman's Obituary
Bernice Ann Zimmerman, 66, of Gig Harbor, passed away on September 5, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Bernice was born on September 4, 1945 in Tacoma to Robert and Marjorie Benson. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1963, and earned her cosmetology instructor license from Bates Technical College in 1966. In 1998 Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Darrell Zimmerman. A devoted mother, grandmother, and consummate homemaker, Bernice lived life to the fullest. Prior to her retirement, Bernice worked at her own behest in various salons and beauty schools in the Tacoma area, including running her own business. Bernice applied her artistic talents to many interests, including ceramics, dolls, miniatures, quilting, and decorating her home. She was an active 15-year member of the Xi Delta Lambda chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in Gig Harbor. Bernice loved life, friends, and her family. Bernice is survived by her sister Christina Benson, son David Zimmerman and wife Katharine, daughter Karen Epstein and husband Joel, three grandchildren, Julia, Asher, and Sam, and numerous other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on September 17, 2011 at the Aspen Chapel, in the Celebration of Life Center, at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood.
