“Aunt Purple"
Bernice was born August 10th, 1923 in Los Angeles, CA and passed away February 17th, 2015 in Tacoma, WA. Bernice's family moved to Tacoma in 1924, eventually settling on Horsehead Bay in Gig Harbor in 1956. Bernice graduated from Lincoln High School and Pacific Lutheran College. She was an elementary school teacher for Tacoma Public Schools for many years.
She was preceded in death by father John Bernhartsen, mother Martha Zelma Hoy Bernhartsen, and beloved husband Charles Frederick Rohrs. Bernice and Chuck shared 51 great years of marriage before his passing enjoying boating, water skiing, hosting family parties, and traveling the world.
Bernice was active in the Daughter's of Norway, Girl Scouts, the Lutheran Church, and the Gig Harbor Historical Society and Museum. Bernice had a life long passion for the color purple that showed in her choice of clothes, wall and carpet colors, and even on her poodle’s toe nails. Her parties always included purple themed gifts and even purple sugar for the coffee.
Survived by nieces and nephews Wendy Doub (Wayne), Bart Harding Rohrs (Penny), Lori Rohrs (Randy Spangler), Julie Adams (Mike), Eric Rohrs, and Dana Baydo (Tim), as well as numerous cousins.
