Bennie Leon McCraney's Obituary
Bennie Leon McCraney, 77 of Tacoma, Washington passed away on December 28, 2021. Bennie will be missed and is loved by many family and friends.
After battling several years of illness, God's angels touched Bennie Leon McCraney Sr. on December 28th, 2021. God call upon them to bring his soldier home to rest. He was born to the union of Bennie McCraney and Alice Louise McCraney on October 28th, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas.
Bennie's first 12 years were spent in Kansas City at 3800 S. Benton Street. After which his mother and father divorced. His mother and stepfather then moved him and his siblings to Los Angeles, California.
Bennie attended La Puente High School where he graduated, then went on to attend Mount San Antonio Community College, where he wrestled and was awarded a letter and plaque for the most pins in 1963. He left to college to join the military in 1963. His spent his first tour in Karlsruhe, Germany. After his tour he returned to La Puente California and started a family. As in life sometime relationships don't work out, as Bennie's didn't but it ended with a beautiful daughter Kassandra.
On May 20th, 1973, about 4pm, by chance, Bennie met Marjorie Pace. Not love at first sight, but they knew there was something there. They married on July 13, 1974, and the union lasted 47 years.
Bennie's first son Bennie Jr. was born in 1975. Bennie then reenlisted back into the military in May of 1975. His military career took him to Ft. Lewis, Gelnhausen Germany, Korea, Panama, Stuttgart Germany and back to Ft. Lewis where he retired. He then worked for Key Bank for 14 years before he had to retired for medical reasons.
Bennie was raised as a Master Mason in 1998 with Pride of Washington Lodge #98. He furthered his Masonic career joining Capital City Consistory #106, being created as a Noble with Yemen Temple #152, being initiated as an Eastern Star with Amaranth Chapter #48. Bennie last positions held were Worthy Patron, Worshipful Master, Inspector General 33rd, and Honorary Past Potente.
Preceding Bennie in death were his parents Bennie and Alice McCraney (Cattledge), his stepfather Jon Cattledge, his bother Jon Cattledge, his brother Terrell McCraney, his brother Michael McCraney, and his sister Armeta Lee.
Bennie is survived by a very large family and extended family. Wife Marjore, children; Bennie McCraney Jr,, Capri Jackson (Curtis), Stevlen McCraney (Stephanie), Elizabeth Taylor (Marcus), Kassandra May (Lovell). Grandchildren; Trenton Jackson (Leotie), Evan Mathiason, Dominique Jackson, Hope McCraney,Bennie L. McCraney III, Dominick McCraney, Joseph McCraney, Melvin Hutchinson, Issac Hutchinson, Aaliyah Burr, Romeallo Burr (Avery), Neriah Funkhouser, Shantel Garcia, and Lucinda Garcia. Great Grandchildren; Kira Jackson, Delilah Jackson, Charles Brymer, Kingsim Singleton, Milo Berndt, Emoni Jones, Iyanna Smith, and Michael Smith. Sisters: Tracey Garnes, Valerie McCraney, and Tonda Batchelor, and several nieces, nephews, God sons and daughters that have come in our lives throughout the years; Tawanda Bishop (Landon), James Spencer, Dwayne Wright, and Michael Shaw (Glenda) Carl Harris. Special love to all his Masonic Brothers, Sisters, Sons, Daughters, (smiles), Girlfriends and wives.
