Beatriz "Betty" Umayam's Obituary
Beatriz "Betty" Umayam, of Lakewood, Washington and Pateros, Philippines passed away peacefully October 31, 2021 at the age of 87. Betty is survived by her two sisters in the Philippines, Feliciana Cruz Medina and Purita Cruz Domingo, her daughter Rosalinda Umayam Griego, Son Ricky Jermaine Umayam, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
Betty was born in Pateros, Philippines on July 29, 1934 and was 1 of 10 children. She married Ignacio "Mike" Umayam and moved to the US when Mike was in the US Army. Their first home was in Colorado where Mike retired from the army. After retiring Mike owned a gas station and Betty was the cashier.
Betty and Mike moved to Washington where Betty worked on Fort Lewis Army Base at the Base Exchange as a head cashier and a supervisor, and eventually retired there. Betty and Mike were very active in the Filipino American Association and served as officers in the organization. They loved to travel and visited their daughter and family in Germany for a road trip throughout Europe. They also visited many other destinations with their friends.
Betty was a loving person who enjoyed cooking and hosting events at her house with family and friends. She also happily opened her home to many family members as they moved into the area. Betty was loved by all and will be dearly missed. Rest in Gods's loving care Beatrice Umayam.
