Beatrice Emily Kurtz's Obituary
Beatrice Emily (Johansen) Kurtz Emily, the youngest of six children, was born to Ludwig and Louisa Johansen in San Rafael, California on 21 December 1915. She passed away peacefully on 5 March 2008 at the age of 92. In 1935 Emily married Francis (Frank) Lamar Kurtz of St. Louis, Missouri. After a 30-year career in the Air Force and many assignments in the United States and overseas, Frank retired and they returned to San Rafael, CA in 1957. Frank passed away in 1996, and Emily continued to live in San Rafael until 2005, when to be near her family, she moved to Washington and settled at Patriots Landing in Dupont. Her greatest joy in life was being a mom, a grandma, and a great-grandma. She is survived by her only child, a daughter, Marilyn (John) Westervelt, 2 granddaughters, Emily Westervelt and Laurie (David) Pearson, and 2 great-grandsons, John and David Pearson. For many years Emily was an avid golfer (3 holes-in-one) and played well into her 87th year. Emily will be cremated and her ashes returned to San Rafael to be placed next to those of her husband Frank. The family wishes to thank the staffs at Patriots Landing, Manor Care, and Franciscan Hospice for their caring dedication and support.
