Barto E. Cooley
Barto Elliott Cooley passed away at Franciscan Hospice House on June 11, 2009 at the age of 94. He was born January 3, 1915 in Grand Forks, N.D. to Fay and Bertha and was the fourth of 13 children. In 1980 he retired after 31 years from Hygrade Meat Packing Plant as a member of UFCW union #554. During his retirement years Barto kept busy working on a number of woodworking projects and enjoyed the challenges of word search puzzles. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marvel; sisters Eyvonne and Edith; brothers Bob and Gene; children Leroy, Elverne and Sharon (Ray) Davenport; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be on June 16 from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Mt. View Funeral Home with graveside service on June 17 at 11:30 am. Memorial service at 1:30 pm on June 17 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 140 E. 56th St., in Tacoma, with reception following. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Concordia Lutheran School, an affiliate of Good Shepherd, where Barto and Marvel have been members since 1949 or Franciscan Hospice House.
