Barbara Louise Thompson's Obituary
Barbara Louise (Walker) Thompson, age 84, was born in Tacoma, Washington on September 5, 1932 to Harvey H. and Emma (Williams) Walker. She grew up in Tacoma with her brother Lawrence (Larry). Barb graduated from Lincoln High School and attended The University of Puget Sound. She worked at Rhodes Dept. Store in the children’s department and was also manager of a baby store in South Tacoma.
She met her true love Jim through her brother Larry. Jim and Barb were married on September 20, 1952 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Tacoma. They were blessed with one son Larry (Linda) Thompson, and one daughter Julie (Bob) Short. They have six grandchildren, Brian Thompson, Cally (Brandon) Huston, Shannon (Eric) Peterson, Kate Day (Josh Babcock), Amy (Patrick) Teaford, and Amber (Matt) Elbon. They have seven great grandchildren, Lucy, Noble, Forrest, Alanna, Erica, Payton and Michael.
Barb raised her family and was very active in her church, Bethany United Methodist. She also volunteered at her childrens’ schools and was very active in the PTA. Barb loved children. She also loved her family and cared for many extended family members. She was a shining example of God’s love to all she met.
Barb passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2017, due to Alzheimer’s Disease and a heart condition. We rejoice in knowing she is free now in God’s heavenly kingdom with husband Jim of 64 years who passed on February 25, 2017.
Barb’s was a life well lived and she touched so many lives with her love and caring. Thanks Mom, for your loving example.
