Barbara passed away July 16, 2021, at St. Joseph's Hospital due to a fall there, 16 days earlier, complicated by Dementia. She died in the same hospital room as her husband Tom, who was being cared for there. A Love Story ~ Indeed Barbara was born in November 1933 to Fred and Margaret Bennett in Leslieville, Alberta Canada, the first of 3 children. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1953. The family moved to the Pacific North-west eventually making Tacoma, Washington their home. Barbara was an accomplished pianist and she played for the youth group at Temple Baptist Church. There she met Tom Hill, who led the singing, the love of her life and they married in October of 1954. They had two daughters, Linda, and Dianne. Barbara's longest career was with Western Farmers / Land o' Lakes / Cenex, where her final position was as an executive secretary, finally retiring in 1998 after 33 years of service. Barbara loved to cook and entertain. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to hook latch, play the piano, golf (her putting superb-- she helped win several
tournaments and trophies together with Tom), dig clams and travelled with her husband, just to mention a few things. She kept a daily diary since 1957 and photos that captured her long and happy life. She also loved dogs and had 3 loyal Shelties over the years that she cherished. The family loved going to Ocean Shores where they bought property, first a tent and camping and eventually building a cabin. They traveled to Ocean Shores most weekends where they enjoyed golfing- following the Pat Boone tournament, digging more clams, boating, swimming and welcoming family and friends. Barbara and Tom loved the warm sunshine and in 1994 they sold the Ocean Shores property and bought a second home in Sun City, AZ where they both enjoyed sunshine, golfing, spring training, trips to Mexico and entertaining family & friends for the next 20 years. Barbara was an avid Seahawk & Mariner fan throughout her life. She also was a cancer survivor thanks to the care from Dr. Tommy Brown and Dr. L. Katherine Martin MDs. Barbara is preceded in death by her father Fred and mother Margaret. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Tom Hill; 2 daughters, Linda Charles (Algona, WA) and Dianne Hill (Aberdeen, WA); a brother David, (Gig Harbor), a sister Mae (Doyle), 3 granddaughters, Jamie, Jessica and Kasie and 3 great-grandchildren, Harper, Carly and Jesse; and many nieces and nephews, in-laws and greats too! A celebration of life / potluck will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26th from 1-3 pm at Brookdale Greens, (Clubhouse and outside), 13702 20th Avenue East, Tacoma, 98445.
