Averell Phillips' Obituary
Averell Wilfred Phillips, 70, of Tacoma, Washington passed away on July 7th, 2023. Averell was born in Bronx, New York to his mother Caroline Edwina Bascombe, and his father Wilfred Benjamin Phillips on July 27th 1952.
He went to school at William Howard Taft, and graduated in 1971. In 1993, he began his journey to Washington State. He worked for Pierce County for nearly 30 years doing Human Services, and worked for Tacoma Public Schools as a well-known, beloved security guard for 24 years, before retiring in 2018. He had a deep love for the sport of boxing and he thoroughly enjoyed listening to smooth jazz and soul music.
He was also known for his beautiful thought provoking poetry and good hearted nature. Averell is survived by his children Aneatra Phillips, Shinique Phillips, Latrice Phillips, Courdray Phillips (Alayna Dietrich) and Ariah Phillips. The mothers of his children Kim Jamison, and Kimberly Phillips. His sisters Tamara Phillips and Myrna Phillips. His nephew David Freeman and lastly, his grandchildren Shaniah Darington, Mayte Phillips, Elliya Phillips, Amir Phillips-Jones and Zahra Phillips.
