Arthur Collet's Obituary
February 19, 1922-May 18, 2013
Art passed away from this life to his heavenly home, Saturday, in the evening on May 18, from congestive heart failure. He went peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and four children. He walks with Jesus now. He was 91 years old.
Art was born February 19, 1922 in Los Angeles, CA to Philipp Josef and Juliana Collet. He had five siblings, Gertrude, Joe, Raymond, John, and Edith. They grew up in the Eagle Rock, CA area and developed a love of fishing from their Dad. Art was a child during the Great Depression. As a young man he quickly enlisted in the Navy serving in World War II. When he returned he worked for the Department of Justice on Alcatraz Island until it was closed down in 1963. He was transferred to McNeil Island in Washington State. He retired in 1974 from the DOJ. Art returned to work at the Clover Park School District as a custodian with a second retirement in 1984. He was a member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus.
Art was nicknamed “Curly” because of his beautiful head of curly hair. He met his wonderful wife, Anna Rita Schutt, and married in 1959. They had four children, Julianne, Phillip, Christine and Rita. He was a family man and they often went on family excursions where Art fished and hunted butterflies in the woods. Art also loved German Shepherd dogs, playing cribbage, gardening all day, and catching squid in the sea. He and Annie enjoyed 53 years of marriage together.
He was a much loved husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. He is survived by his devoted wife and caregiver Annie, his children Julianne (Jeff), Phillip (Carla), Christine, Rita, and grandchildren Jacalyn, Jillian, Jordan, and great-grandchildren Kirra, Titus, and Isabel.
A Memorial Mass in his honor will be held at St. Frances Cabrini in Lakewood, WA on Monday, May 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM with reception following in the parish.
