Growing up in the Military and moving around a lot, there have been many teachers in my 43 years of life that I have the pleasure of meeting and learning from. I can say with all honesty that there are only three teachers that left a lifetime of impressions in my heart and I think about quiet often. Mr. Myers, you sir, are number one!! I attended Woodbrook Junior High from September 1989 to February 1992.
Your booming laughter filled a room and the hallways we walked! I still hear it today! It wasn’t often you were upset, but boy when you were, we all knew it and steered clear. 😊 You always looked for the best in all your students. Treating us like we were your own children. Pull up your pants you would say to the boys that wore them hanging off their butts. Or just asking is that where your pants belong? Do you own a belt? Wanna use mine? I can’t tell you how many boys I saw pull up their pants when they saw or even heard you coming. Just so they wouldn’t get the wrath of you!
You always made me feel I was enough! Told me to never take crap from anyone and be myself! You always had an open door and were willing to listen to anyone and their problems! You helped all your students to the best of your ability and always had inspirational words to share! Your big Bear Hugs are greatly missed! You always made me hot chocolate and would put coffee mate original creamer in it and say this makes it creamy. It made it creamy because we were using water to make the hot chocolate. But, I still to this day add that creamer to my hot chocolate and think of you each time I do!
Pachelbel’s Canon in D is my all-time favorite classical. The first time I heard it I was your TA (teachers assistant) in your Orchestra Class. I was in the office filing away some paperwork and heard the class start playing it, I was hooked. You would play it for me just because you knew I loved it! You even helped me play the Cello a little, never got the hang of it though, because you know, that darn thing was bigger than I was, and still is.
You will forever be in my heart!! You are greatly missed! Sing, dance and play that Trombone with the angels Mr. Myers! Till we meet again! ~ Paulette Mays
