Arnold James "AJ" Archer's Obituary
Arnold James “AJ” Archer, 92, passed away peacefully and went to meet the Lord on October 7, 2014 in University Place, WA. He was born on August 3, 1922 in Great Falls, Montana to A. Grant and Elizabeth (Wuotila) Archer.
AJ attended Lincoln High School in Tacoma and served in the U.S. Army during WWII ( 390th AAA, AW BN., (SP) fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for the Tacoma Fire Department for 27 years, retiring in 1974. AJ enjoyed attending regular reunions, fishing, going to the cabin, spending time with his grandchildren, and following the stock market. In his younger years, he worked hard building a home in Tacoma and a family cabin in Packwood. The family will remember his detailed stories, generous nature, charming sense of humor and unwavering loyalty. He will be forever remembered as Grandpa Jim.
He is survived by his sons D. Brent and Scott Archer; sister Mrs. Stanley R. (Audrey) King; grandchildren Brian (Nancy) Archer, Shelby Archer; and great-grandchildren Taylor, Camden and Brooklyn of Tacoma. Also his close friends, Joanie and Christina Martin of Fox Island. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty L. Archer in 1980; his sister Mrs. Donald F. (Mary-Jean) McColm; and brother Donald E. Archer of Tacoma.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, October 17, 1pm at University Place Presbyterian Church.8101 27th Street West, University Place, WA 98466.
