Anthony David Klarich's Obituary
Anthony D. KlarichW/O U.S. Navy, RetiredAnthony D. Klarich, 88, beloved husband of Josephine Klarich, passed away suddenly at home on Memorial Day. Born on June 3, 1916 in the shadow of the Tacoma Smelter smokestack to Rose and Joseph Klarich who had immigrated to the U.S. from Austria. He attended schools in Tacoma and in 1934 joined the U.S. Navy. He served on the Yangtze River Patrol prior to WWII and saw duty in the South Pacific Theatre during that war and in Korea. On January 19, 1946 he married Jo Smailey at Holy Rosary Church in Tacoma. His final year in the Navy was with the Harbor Defense Unit in San Francisco. Upon retirement from the Navy in 1954 he joined the Anchor Packing Company of San Francisco as a sales rep and lived in the bay area until 1988 when he and Jo returned to their roots in Tacoma. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Assoc., Military Officers Assoc. of America, St. John Bosco Catholic Church and Oakbrook Golf and Country Club. Tony is survived by his loving wife, Jo; sister Margie Surina, Monterey Park, CA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Florence and William Velacich, Milton; nieces Mary (Jim) Mancuso, Gig Harbor; Katherine (Alan) Foodym and Roseanne (Paul) Morrow, California; and nephews Bill (Debbie) Velacich, Bellingham; Anthony (Karen) Turkovich, Las Vegas; John Surina and Jim (Janet) Surina, California; great nephews and niece, Matt, David, and Rosemary. He was predeceased by parents, sister Anne, and brother Joseph.A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John Bosco Church, 10508 112th St. SW, Lakewood, on Monday, Jun 7, 2004 at 11:00 AM.
