Annie Mae Simon's Obituary
Annie's Story
Annie Mae Simon was born on January 22, 1930 in Delhi,
Louisiana to Fred Patrick Duckworth and Mittie Mae Coston. Both
parents and all four of her siblings have preceded Annie in death.
Annie Mae married the love of her life, Raymond Simon, on
October 22, 1945, in East Carroll Parish, Lake Providence,
Louisiana. She gave birth to their first child while she was still
sixteen years of age. The couple faced many life challenges, but
they stood strong together for fifty years, during which time they
raised five children.
In 1953, with their first three children, Annie Mae and Raymond
then moved from Louisiana to Northern California (Tulelake), to
join Raymond’s other family members. They then moved to
Klamath Falls, Oregon. The birth of two more children added to
their family soon after that.
Annie Mae stayed home to raise her pre-school children, but after
all of her kids were in school, Annie Mae became a telephone
operator in the small town of Merrill, Oregon in the 1960s. She
continued to practice the same trade as a telephone operator in the
larger city of Klamath Falls, OR, in the 1970s.
After the death of her husband, she lived at various times in the
homes of her children. After her paralyzing stroke, she then came
to Tacoma Washington where she resided for the past seven years,
in a Nursing Home.
