Annie Umbao Hamilton's Obituary
In Memory of our Beloved Annie
Annie, a loving and resilient woman, was born to Francisco Umbao and Clotilde Montealegre in the town of Pola, Oriental Mindoro in the Philippines, where she spent her childhood by the ocean alongside her seven siblings: Paquito, Myrna, Phoebe, Pancho, Ysmael, Mario, and Dina. Seeking further education, she moved to Manila to attend Far Eastern University, pursuing a degree in Commerce. Upon graduation, she dedicated herself to public service as a valued member of the Department of Interior and Local Government. Annie's role involved extensive travels across the Philippines, and various parts of Asia. As a section leader, she took charge of approving travel documents for local government officials.
Annie's journey led her to marriage with her first husband, Urbano, and raised three children—Paul Richard, Bimbo Bren, and Francis Conrad. While juggling her professional responsibilities, Annie's unwavering love and dedication made her a remarkable mother, always prioritizing the needs of her children. In pursuit of a better future, Annie's family migrated to the United States, and she joined them in December 2008. Embracing a new career in nursing, she served in the field of Geriatric care, bringing compassion and comfort to those in need. In 2015, Annie was granted her US citizenship and recognizing her as an honorable citizen, the Governor of Kentucky bestowed upon her the title of Colonel for life in 2020. Annie’s life was further enriched by the arrival of her three grandchildren—Kendall, Pierre Jordan, and Cyrus—who brought immense joy into her life.
In 2016, Annie's path intertwined with her future husband, Frederick, through her brother Ysmael, who was also working at the US Postal System. After a two-year courtship, Annie and Frederick were married in Tacoma, Washington. However, their journey together faced an unexpected turn when Frederick suffered a heart attack, leading to open heart surgery. Annie dedicated herself to Frederick's recovery, devoting six months to nursing him back to health. Yet, shortly after his rehabilitation, Annie found herself in the ER due to abdominal pain, where she received the devastating diagnosis of advanced ovarian cancer.
For the next four years, Annie approached her battle with unwavering optimism, undergoing numerous rounds of chemotherapy and experimental treatments. Even in the face of adversity, she remained hopeful and embraced life's moments, cherishing time with her family and spoiling her beloved grandchildren. Annie's unshakeable faith in God provided her with strength, knowing that everything happened for a reason
At the close of sunset on June 22nd, Annie was called upon by God to join Him. As twilight faded here on earth, the sun rose in Heaven, welcoming Annie through its gates, where she rejoined her beloved Creator.
Annie leaves behind a beautiful legacy of children, grandchildren, a loving husband, and lifelong friends. In her passing, she continued to exemplify her selfless nature by donating her corneas, granting the gift of sight to two individuals. Annie lived a life of purpose and brought joy to those around her, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
May her spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched.
