I remember a girls night with cousin Kris and I and it was the first time I feel like I got to really know Grandma, because so often it was a big group of family with all other events. We baked and she danced around and told stories and we got to know Grandpa through her and I really appreciated that time. It meant the world to me that she traveled to Texas for my wedding and a 4 generation picture of that day is something I’ll forever treasure. In recent years, although it’s been sometimes hard to watch her memory decline it’s also given me found memories; like the time we went to visit and she answered the door and didn’t recognize anyone except Jordan who had grown probably a foot and looked completely different than the last time she’d seen him, she scanned all of us with a confused look got to Jordan and said ‘Jordan!!’ and pushed past the rest of us to give him a hug or the time Kaitlin was doing a walking EEG and had wires on her head under a huge bandage - we asked grandma if she knew what was on her head and she looked at us frustrated and promoted told us they were curlers. (With a duh’ looked on her face!) We asked if she knew who Kaitlin was and she said no and promptly introduced herself with a ‘HI, Kaitlin I’m Grandma.”
I can only imagine how hard times were after Grandpa passed away, leaving 9 young kids behind but Grandma (and the kids) persevered. Those experiences and times shaped us all and have become part of both of their legacies and they both live on through all of us!
I know you’re dancing in heaven, Grandma! We love and will miss you!
