Anna Margaret Names' Obituary
Anna (Meg) Margaret Horan Names was born on September 2, 1934 to John and Helen Horan in Wenatchee, Washington. Meg passed away peacefully in her home on February 13, 2016 at the age of 81. Meg was proceeded in death by her husband Tom Names, parents John and Helen Horan, sisters Jackie McDougall, Patricia Wallin and Colleen Hein.
Meg graduated from Wenatchee High School and attended Washington State University before transferring to the University of Puget Sound where she met the love of her life Tom. Meg was a substitute teacher for many years in the Tacoma School district. Her most important job was mom to her three girls.
Meg was a member of University Place Presbyterian Church and a former long time member of Fircrest Methodist Church. Meg loved her church friends whom she would have coffee and breakfast with each Sunday morning.
Meg was long time member of the Holiday Orthopedic Guild, which supported Mary Bridge Children’s hospital. Meg and Tom attended Festival of Trees for 25 years, it was one of their favorite events. Meg also was a long time member of Fircrest Golf Course, was captain of the 9 hole group, played bridge and Bunco with her friends at the club. Meg was in numerous Bridge groups and loved all of her friends that she played with. Meg was a long time member of a Women’s investment Club.
Meg had a love for travel that took her to Ireland, Scotland, Panama Canal, Virgin Islands and Hawaii. Meg and Tom’s favorite place in the world though was at their place at Lake Chelan where they spent every summer. They loved their walks to Fields Point Landing every morning with the grandkids where they would buy them candy.
Meg was a die hard Cougar in a household full of Huskies. Meg and her sister Colleen loved to go to the Apple Cup with their husbands and were so happy to go together to the 1998 Rose Bowl.
The most important people in Meg’s life were her family and friends. Meg is survived by her daughters: Erin (Mark) Shagren, Beth (Dennis) Dobbs, Monica (Steve) King. Grandchildren: Tommy (Jennifer) Friesen, Kelli (Sam) Dupuis, Amanda Shagren, Sammie (Matt) Griffin, Scott Shagren, Megan Shagren, Jonathan Nix, Claire Nix, Erica King and Emily King. Great Grandchildren: Samson and Maxx Dupuis, and Baby Friesen due in June. Sisters in Law: Paula Larkin and Diane Names (John Day). Meg is also survived by numerous Nieces and Nephews whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of life in Meg’s honor will take place on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 2pm at University Place Presbyterian Church 8101 27th Street University Place, WA 98466 with a reception to follow at Fircrest Golf Club 1500 Regents Blvd. Fircrest, WA 98466. A private graveside service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled On Friday February 19, 2016 from 2:00/PM to 5:00/PM at the Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood WA. Family and friends kindly invited.
