Ann Walker's Obituary
Ann Mae Walker was born June 12, 1931 in Valliant, Oklahoma to Otis and Rosie Lee Frazier Conley who both preceded her in death. Ann was a healthy child, cherished by her parents, adored by her sibling, loved and respected by family members and friends.
Ann was raised in a Christian home where they faithfully attended worship service on 1st and 3rd Sundays. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a very early age.
Ann attended many schools because her father was in the United States Army. In 1953 Ann and her family moved from Havre de Grace, Maryland to Tacoma, Washington, where her husband was stationed in the United States Army.
She has been a member of Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church, since 1955. Under the leadership of Mrs. Missionary Helen B. Stafford and Mrs. Hallie B. Russell she was introduced to the various organizations and their presidents. She immediately became a member of the Ellen Kellum Women’s Missionary Society. Now named Ann Mae Walker Missionary Society.
Mrs. Walker contributed significantly to her church and her community. She served as a Steward, Stewardess, and member of both the Women’s Missionary Society, and Lay Organization. She organized the Ellen Kellum Women’s Society “Parade of Tables”, which was held the Saturday evening before Mother’s Day with an annual theme for the tables; recently held with the theme “Spring Bling Pretty Things” Hat Tea Parade of Tables.
Mrs. Walker was employed by the Tacoma Public schools and assigned to Stanley Elementary school as a Teacher’s Aide, and she also worked at St. Joseph’s hospital in Tacoma. She also helped to persevere the future by raising children with special needs, providing a special Home for them for over 30 years. She made sure they attended activities at Allen and in the community and traveled to many places during their time with her.
She and her husband, Charles Walker, Sr. were owners of the Walker’s Exxon Service station at Martin Luther King Way (K Street ) and 15th Street for 15 years.
Mrs. Walker served the community in many capacities participating in and planning fashion shows. At one time she was the seamstress and costume designer for the Caballeros Club in Tacoma and she worked at other annual events. She was also a member of the Elmore Orthopedic Guild in Tacoma.
Mrs. Walker is kindly known as “Miss Ann.” She had the kindest heart, very giving spirit, showing dedication to her faith in God by her deeds and actions. Her life mirrored the Biblical wisdom of living simply; loving generously; caring deeply; speaking kindly; and leaving the rest to God.
