Ann Howarth's Obituary
Ann was born on May 18, 1922 in Newton, Massachusetts, to Everett and Hilda (Morse) Howarth. She died peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 14, 2007 at the Tacoma Lutheran Home, after suffering several setbacks from the effects of Parkinson's and cancer.Ann grew up in Fitchburg, MA, belonged to Christ Episcopal Church there, attended schools at Dana Hall and Pine Manor, Wellesley, MA and graduated from the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. After a short tour in the US Navy as a WAVE during WWII, her whole working career was as a professional secretary, with 17 years in San Francisco and then back east, eventually retiring from 24 years with Arthur D. Little, Inc., in Cambridge, MA. During her career she was actively involved with the former National Secretaries Association, now known as Professional Secretaries International.After her retirement in 1985, she moved to Lakewood to be near her brother and his family where she joined St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and became very active with the St. Clare Hospital Auxiliary, where she put in one or two days a week for many years, working in the Human Resources Dept.Ann is survived by her brother, Arthur "Moe" Howarth (Meliss), nephew Douglas K. Howarth (Jacqueline), nieces Laurie Ann Ammons (Douglas) and Terri Ellen Lally (Allen), and four grand-nieces and one grand-nephew. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 10630 Gravelly Lake Drive, Lakewood, on Monday, November 19th.We wish to give the staff at Tacoma Lutheran Home our sincerest thanks for all of the loving care she was given.
