Ann Elizabeth Reitz
On Thursday, April 2, 2009, Ann Reitz passed away at the age of 87. She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Schnider and their family, and Fred and Bette Schnider, her son and daughter-in-law Ed and Betty Bisig, her daughters and sons-in-law Diane and Ron Scheidt, Debi and Greg Mills, and Marie and Tim DeLong, her grandchildren Jerry, Jeff, Ed, Jodi, Judye, Toby, Kelly, Kerry, Karly, and Ryan, great-grandchildren (Diane's grandchildren) Sierra, Miranda, Katie, Jacob, Anna, Tatiana, Kiara, Jenna, Maya and Ava, (Ed's grandchildren) Tyler, Brittney, Elliot, Kaylee, Cole and Rylee, (Debi's grandson) Cole, and (Marie's grandchildren) Austin, Gabe and Isabelle, and all her friends. Ann was born on July 29, 1921 to Frank and Elsie Schnider in Sumner, Washington. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1939. After high school, she attended Hunter College in New York City and worked as a bookkeeper in Stockton, California before she enlisted in the W.A.V.E.S. (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). She attended the U.S. Naval Training School at Indiana University. She served as a Storekeeper in the Twelfth Naval District in San Francisco. Her position allowed her to know the location of all the Naval ships at all times. She married Walter Bisig in 1943 while they were both on leave from the Navy. She later married LaVern Reitz in 1966. She was a lifelong member of the Tacoma Swiss Ladies Society, a member of the Washington State Historical Society, and a volunteer at the Fife Community Senior Center. Ann loved "Noel", her cat of 14 years. In addition, she loved watching sports, especially college basketball, traveling, reading, movies, and camping. Any good deed towards another would honor Ann's memory. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her name to the Tacoma Swiss Society Scholarship Fund at 9205 198th Ave. E., Bonney Lake, WA 98391. A special thank you to the staff of Rainier Vista Care Center for the compassionate care that was provided to Ann and her family when it was most needed. You are all invited to attend her graveside service on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home, located at 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW in Tacoma, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 p.m. at Mill Ridge Village, located at 607 28th Avenue in Milton. Viewing at Mountain View Funeral Home will be on Friday, April 17 from 1 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 18 from 8 to 11:00 a.m.
