Andrew P. Bergman's Obituary
ANDY always greeted people with “good morning”, no matter the time of day. He chose a morning to leave his earthly body to go off to play the perfect round of golf. He passed unexpectedly on Jan. 22, at St Clare ICU due to complications from pneumonia, with family by his side. He had recently turned 75.
Andy was born in Tacoma on Dec. 3, 1942, to Bob and Nancy Bergman. He spent most of his growing up years in Fircrest, attending Wainwright, Mason and Wilson HS (class of ’61). After a brief time at UPS, he was off to Vietnam to serve his country as a Marine. He always shared good memories of times with both sides of his grandparents.
Andy is survived by his wife Kathy (44 years), son Mat (Amy), daughters Andria (Jeff) and Anett. His youngest son Dave (Mindi) passed last March. He leaves six grandchildren , Alicia (Ellis), Jenny (Justin), Victoria, Morgan, Hudson and Kate, and his brother Rob (Susan). Missing him so is his 4-legged companion, Teddy. His wife has a large family in ND that he loved to visit. A few cousins survive also.
Andy enjoyed many people and a few held a special place in his heart… Russ and Jean, Bill G., Sheriff Bob, golfer Bob and Jim LeAir.
Besides playing with family and working, Andy enjoyed many things….talking with people, camping, golfing with the “Sharks”, watching football and golf, reading the Newspaper sports page and weather, politics, old movies (b/w cowboy, Jerry Lewis and Jack Lemon), Tacoma Musical Playhouse.
He had favorites…. Arnold Palmer, the Dodgers (especially Duke Snider), Seahawks Steve Largent and Russell Wilson, WSU Cougs, singer Andy Williams, blueberries, spaghetti, chocolate chip cookies, a walk in Mayfair park with Teddy, and Johnny’s Dock.
Over Andy’s adult years, he was involved with community groups…Young Democrats, Boy Scout troop leader, coach/athletic director with SEAA, School District Levy Campaigns (awarded a Golden Apple), Emergency CB Radio, SE Optimists, Tacoma Rotary 8, Daffodil Festival Board (President in ’85), Brookdale Mens’ Golf Club (18 yrs. as Secretary), Tacoma Golf Assn., Manufactured Homeowners of America (State President and National Board).
Describe Andy…a great dad, always involved with helping people, a talker, young at heart, a golfer, a patriot (he was proud to have served in Vietnam).
Busy man….loved life….until it wasn’t so good anymore.
The family wishes to thank the 3 teams who gave their best effort to keep Andy with us…Central Pierce Fire and Rescue, St. Clare ER staff and St. Clare ICU staff.
