Anabelle Morrison Stillman's Obituary
Anabelle Morrison Stillman, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died peacefully Jan. 16 in Lakewood, Washington at age 87 after a short illness.She spent her life enriching the lives of all those with whom she came in contact. Anabelle deeply loved her husband, Chuck, whom she married June 21, 1942.She was born to Gilbert J. Morrison and Ethel R. Sommer on February 8, 1917 in Spokane, Washington and grew up in eastern Washington. Her family, including brothers Bob, Roger, Dale and Jack, farmed in the Colville Valley.Mrs. Stillman earned her B.A. in Sociology and Business from Washington State College (now University) in 1940 where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad and was, for a time, a social worker assisting Native American tribes in Washington.Anabelle devoted her life to God and was an active member of Lake City Community Church. She taught Sunday School, served on many committees, and was president of the WomenÂ's Fellowship. Her desire was to honor and glorify God in all she did.She served for many years on the Pierce County Fair Board and the State 4-H Fair Board, helping judge 4-H activities at the Western Washington State Fair in Puyallup. The family raised horses and Anabelle helped with area horse shows.One of her many accomplishments was to earn her private pilotÂ's license. She flew Cessna 172Â's. She also was an avid gardener. Anabelle served as a Cub Scout, Camp Fire and Girl Scout leader and helped organize PTAÂ's, where she held various offices. She was a strong supporter of her son and daughtersÂ' sports, music, and other activities. Later in life, she loved to see and hear accounts of her six grandchildrenÂ's many achievements. Anabelle enjoyed nothing more than seeing her grandkids sing, act, write, play sports, and achieve academically.Mrs. Stillman actively participated with her husband in the familyÂ's business activities, including tree farming. Her efforts with Chuck earned them the Pierce County Conservation Tree Farmer of the Year award in 1980.She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Chuck; her three children, Don (Judy Scott), Kathy (Dick) Page, and Diana (Rich) Hay; six grandchildren, Scott and Sarah Stillman, Scott and Kevin (Rebecca) Page, and Holly and Jonathan Hay; two brothers, Dale (Martha) and Jack Morrison; and many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-laws. She leaves behind many friends who loved her dearly. Anabelle will always be remembered for her loving compassion, optimism, encouraging words, wisdom and strong faith in God. She will be greatly missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Lake City Community Church, 8810 Lawndale Ave. S.W., Lakewood, WA. 253-582-8040, www.lc3.com.
