Alvin S. Hatfield Jr.'s Obituary
Alvin S. Hatfield, 69, was born on September 26, 1947 in Spriggs, West Virginia and passed away peacefully on November 10, 2016 at Madigan Army Hospital, Fort Lewis, Washington.
Al was a decorated American hero, dedicating his life to the United States military. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served 20 years in Army signal intelligence, earning the rank of Master Sergeant, Ret. He also spent 31 years working in various assignments in U.S. military intelligence as a U.S. Government civilian, including 16 years at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
Al did incredible intelligence work for his country all of his life and, for a very sensitive assignment in 1979, was awarded the Defense Distinguished Service Award Medal. Al served for 38 years in Korea and his ability at the Korean language was superb. He was known in his specialized field as the best by senior personnel and his peers.
A loving father and devoted husband, Al is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Myonghui; children, Alvin S. Hatfield III, Sue Ann Hatfield, and Richard A. Hatfield; and many close friends.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
