Alvin O. Dees' Obituary
Alvin O. Dees passed away Monday, May 6, 2013, at the age of 98. He was born October 26, 1914 in Kremlin, Montana in a two-room homestead shack to Andrew and Dorthea Dees, immigrants from Norway.
Alvin was the eldest of 8 children. He grew up on a farm and developed a strong character and work ethic. He graduated from Havre High School and attended Montana State College to study mechanics. He met Evelyn Formanack at a school picnic and they were married in September of 1937. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary last September.
Alvin and Evelyn lived in Great Falls and Kalispell and Havre, Montana before moving to the Tacoma area during WWII.
Alvin was a man of God. He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church. He will be remembered by friends and family as a man who always put others first and lived a life of service. He was known as someone who could fix just about anything!
Al worked most of his adult life as a mechanic and electronics technician. He enjoyed many years of retirement, and he and Evelyn enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. The highlight of the year was their annual vacation back to Montana to visit family and friends.
Al is survived by his wife, Evelyn, and his daughter LaVerne (George) Gonzales, his son, Alvin Bruce (Virginia) Dees, and his granddaughters, Erin Delyn Dees and Lauren Arlene Dees. He is also survived by his brothers Donald and Richard, and many nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters, Ella Hammond and Dorothy Sanda, and his brothers Morris, Norman and Arnold Dees.
There will be a private family graveside service. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Monday, May 13th at 1:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 7209 S. Puget Sound, Tacoma. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hope Lutheran Church or the Tacoma Rescue Mission, or a charity of your choice. Viewing will be at Mountain View Funeral Home on Sunday, May 12th from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Weatherly Inn Magnolia Place for their loving care of Alvin during his stay.
