Alvarez Imai Murphy's Obituary
Alvarez Imai Murphy (1957 - 2024) was a friendly, sincere, generous, and candid brother and son, who dedicated his entire life to the care and well-being of his dearest mother, Masako. Alvarez (66) of Lakewood, WA, died of heart disease at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, WA, on July 5, 2024. Born in Ashiya, Kyushu, Japan, in 1957 to Masako Imai Murphy and Vibert Alvarez Murphy Sr., Alvarez spent his childhood years in Fukuoka, Japan, attending Itazuke Dependents School. He graduated from Pusan American High School, Korea, in 1975 before attending Boston University and starting his decorated military career in the Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force. Alvarez was an avid electronics and computer technologist, who enjoyed collecting and repairing vintage stereo equipment. Alvarez was preceded in death by his father, Vibert Murphy Sr., and his brother, Vibert Murphy Jr. and is survived by his mother, Masako Murphy, and brother, Patrick Murphy. In his youthful days, Alvarez was a member of Soka Gakkai International, a lay Buddhist organization devoted to the advancement of world peace. Services will be held at Mt. View Funeral Home, located at 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW in Lakewood, WA, on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.
