Alton Churchill's Obituary
Alton “Al” Verle Churchill was born on May 13, 1934 in Pretty Rock, North
Dakota. He lost his battle with cancer in his home on February 15, 2020. He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Robin and daughter-in-law Linda. Son Shawn and daughter-in-law Dorothy. Daughter Danette and Lorinda. His sister Carol Denzer. His 5 grandchildren and 7 step grandchildren.
He was a proud member of the Radio Club of Tacoma. He was active in
Cascade 4x4’s, and a charter member of Overboard Race Club. He served in
the Navy where he was honorably discharged after years of service.
Al married his first wife Wilma in September of 1960. They had 4 children
and shared 46 years together doing many of the various activities they
enjoyed doing with their children. Wilma succumbed to cancer on August 3,
2007. Al then met and married Shirley in January of 2010, they were blessed to have 10 years together before Al’s passing. During that time, they enjoyed many activities together. Fishing and crabbing, beach cleanup, camping in their motor home, plus many more family activities. They also were able to travel to many places with their motor home.
Some of Al’s favorite activities were fishing and bowling. He loved going to the Jeep races with his family. During the late 60’s and early 70’s he enjoyed midget racing with his children. He was the owner, mechanic and pit crew all rolled in one. The Radio Club was a passion of his. He always enjoyed talking on the ham radio and being and operator in assisting with whatever they asked of him.
He enjoyed the church he attended which was Senior Church in Eatonville,
WA. He and his wife Shirley were the first couple to be married at that
church. Many other couples have now been married there since then. One
fond memory is where he and his wife Shirley dressed up in the appropriate
50’s wear and attended a sock hop at the church. Al was loved and will be missed greatly. His footprint is left on many lives. He will however, continually live on in our hearts and memories. He has found a
peace none of us know. He is in heaven enjoying all the things he loved to do on earth. He will always live on in each of us forever.
