Alta Marie Conner's Obituary
Alta “Marie” Conner was born on December 12, 1930, in New Meadows, Idaho, to William and Edith (Ferrell) Pappas. The angels came to take her to Heaven early in the morning on August 5, 2013.
Marie was raised in Weiser, Idaho, along with 5 sisters and a brother. In 1952, she met her Air Force man John. They lived in Idaho, Wisconsin, California, Japan, and in 1960 decided to make their permanent home in Lakewood, WA.
Marie was an avid baseball fan, and had seats at Cheney Stadium for herself and friends to enjoy for many years. She was a Girl Scout Leader, PTA President, and a recipient of the Golden Acorn Award. In her younger years she loved to draw and oil paint. While she lived in Japan she took an intense course in Japanese flower arranging, proudly earning her certification. She owned Mr. John’s Beauty Salon in Lakewood for several years. She enjoyed eating at Bur’s Restaurant almost every day for the past 30 years and loved the kindness their staff showed her.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Carol Harrington (Joe), Lora Conner, and Linda O’Keefe (Tony); by grandchildren, Stephen and John Harrington, Lorisa Johnson, and Lauren and Conner O’Keefe, by her sister, Bessie Judd in Spokane, and by many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind honorary grandchildren, Philippe, Desiree, Jennifer, Emily, and Alexis.
The family would like to thank the following for helping with her care so that she could live out her last five months in peace and comfort in the home of her daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Joe: Franciscan Hospice (Beverly, Kathy, Mernitha, and Kara), and Visiting Angels (Linda and Billie).
To the friends that came to visit her throughout her illness, and the ones who couldn’t visit but kept her in your thoughts and prayers, know that she loved you dearly.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Mountain View Cemetery. A reception will follow the service. For those details you may contact a family member.
