Alicia Winona Jones' Obituary
Alicia Winona Jones was born on May 11, 1967 at Mountain View General Hospital in Tacoma, WA. The Lord called her to her eternal home on September 10, 2013 at Tacoma General Hospital.
From the time of her birth, she was affectionately known as “Lisa” to her family and childhood friends. Alicia attended public schools in both Tacoma and Lakewood Washington. She earned a Certificate in the Call Center Customer Service program at Clover Park Technical College. Alicia's early childhood was filled with family outings, trips to Grandma Mattie's (the late Mattie Sterling-Hall) house, and endless days of laughing and playing with her two siblings Maurice and La-Sandra.
Alicia was 8 years old when her mother Carol (Seattle, WA) married Staff Sergeant Luther Anderson Jr. (Columbus, GA). Staff Sergeant Anderson would raise Alicia and her siblings and became a strong father figure in their lives. As Army brats, Alicia and the family traveled all over the United States and Europe. While the family was living in Weierhof Germany, Alicia's youngest brother Luther III aka “Peabody” was born.
Alicia had a unique relationship with each of her siblings. Alicia and her brother Maurice, who resides in North Carolina, spent hours on the phone laughing and talking. He served as big brother and confidante providing both advice and words of wisdom that she took to heart. Her sister, La-Sandra (University Place, WA) was her constant companion and closest friend. Only eleven months apart in age, Alicia was often mistaken for being the younger of the two but would quickly announce, “Uh, I am the oldest!” Alicia was big sister to youngest brother, Luther (Tacoma, WA) and youngest sister, Nakima Jones-Jackson (Renton, WA).
Alicia became a mother at a young age giving birth to her eldest son Anthony Lamar Jones. Two years later she gave birth to her second son, Timothy Mack Jr. Alicia was compelled to tell other young women her story of how she had become a mother at an early age. She would readily share her life experiences in order to help other young mothers. Alicia recognized and understood the need for a place for young mother's to go which would provide short-term housing, counseling, job training, parenting classes, and family mentoring.
In 1988, Alicia married 1st Sergeant Avery Bradley Sr. (Mound Bayou, MS) and from this union, two children were born; La-Iecia Mone' Bradley and Avery Antonio Bradley Jr. La-Iecia, affectionately known as “Lou”, was Alicia's right hand when it came to matters of the home and family life. The two of them were often mistakenly thought of as sisters instead of mother and daughter and were very close. As the youngest of the family, Avery Jr. was a handful. As fearless as he was curious, Avery Jr. kept Alicia on her toes! Her stern but loving approach to his care helped to keep him focused, driven, confident, and goal oriented. As a result of Alicia’s guidance, Avery was successfully drafted into the NBA by the Boston Celtics as the 19th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.
Alicia was scheduled to move from Washington to Boston on September 16th, 2013 to assist Avery and her future daughter-in-law, Ashley, in caring for their new son. She was looking forward to attending all of Avery’s home games as well as continuing her role as Avery’s most avid and loudest supporter.
Alicia was a dedicated and committed working mother. She worked as a Dispatcher and Billing Clerk at West Coast Grocery SuperValu for 14 years, and as a Broadband Service Assurance Technician for AT&T Broadband for 8 years. Her last job was as a Financial Services Specialist 3 with the State of Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) were she was employed for six and a half years. She left DSHS in June 2013 to spend more time with her granddaughter Leala' aka “Ladybug”, (La-Iecia's daughter) and to await the arrival of her first grandson.
Alicia was a member of the Maranatha Family Worship Center (Tacoma, WA) where she served faithfully for many years under the leadership of the late Dr. Andrew J. Miller and current Pastor Mark K. Miller. Alicia's relationship with the Lord was very important to her and she considered her church family to be her "second" family. Alicia had a special place in her heart for children and young adults. On any given Sunday she could be found walking the aisles during the morning worship service, praying for and ministering to the youth, reminding them to read their bibles daily and to always put God first in their lives. Alicia was a bright light to so many. She took every opportunity to encourage and uplift everyone she met, dedicating herself to giving back to her community. She worked quietly behind the scenes, never seeking or wanting the spotlight. She lived to serve, and she did so with grace, humility, and poise. She will be truly missed by all.
Alicia was preceded in death by several family members.

Bradley Sr. (Mound Bayou, MS); Aunts: Aida Kathy Moorjah (Oakland, CA), Stephanie Matthews (Tacoma, WA), Mildred Lubin (Gainesville, FL), Christine Kennard (Baltimore, MD), Brenda Anderson (Charlotte, NC), Uncles: Harold E.Thomas (Tacoma, WA); Robert Anderson (Louise) (Columbus, GA), Tom Anderson (Middlelothan, Virginia), Nieces: Latae D. Owens (Tacoma, WA), Kayla N. Aponte-Anderson (Puyallup, WA) Isabella I. Anderson, Samara Anderson, and Amani Anderson (all of Tacoma, WA), Nephews: Michael D. Owens Jr. (University Place, WA), Gregory L. Jackson III and Isaiah Jackson (Renton, WA), Great-Niece: Liati M. Gibbons (University Place, WA); 2 God Children: Jamiea N. Jackson (Nashville, TN) and A'Niyah M. Scott (Tacoma, WA), a host of cousins, a devoted church family, the Boston Celtics family, and loving friends.
