Alice M. Larson's Obituary
Amid the sounds of shuffling cards and the raucous laughter of her children and grandchildren, Granny Alice died quietly Friday night, during the cocktail hour.Quiet was not a trait of Alice's. Born in 1918, the third of eight children of Bertha and Adolf Benum, she was always happiest when with friends and family. Her gregarious nature served her well at work, whether as a cosmetics consultant for Charles of the Ritz or during her many years as hostess at Knapp's Restaurant. At home, Alice enjoyed her yard. A smoke, a cold drink, and a card game on the patio after an afternoon of pulling weeds defined a great day. She loved to cook as well. Her rolls, pies, and applesauce will continue to be enjoyed for generations.Christmas Eve was special, a big party with great food, Tom & Jerry's, everybody she knew, and presents for the little ones, three generations so far. This holiday tradition began with Alice and her true love, Dave. Their children and grandchildren continue the tradition.Preceded in death by husband Dave; daughter Toby; brothers Frank, Arnold, and Sonny; grandsons Craig and Sam. She leaves behind brothers Martin (Frances) Benum and Sverre (Gerry) Benum; sisters Monita Middleton and Esther Benson; children Carol (Daniel) Cote, Don (Terrie) Larson, Laurie (Kevin) Kennedy; grandchildren Debbie (Eric) Murphy, Denise (Michael) Huff, Greg (Reyna) Dunaway, Brian (Diana) Dunaway, Kelly (Scott) Peterson, John (Lori) Larson, Jim Larson, Megan Kennedy, Jake Kennedy and Riley Kennedy; 10 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 12721 30th Avenue NE, Seattle, WA 98125.A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 10, 2005 in the Mt. View Garden Chapel.
