Alice Leone Owens' Obituary
Alice Leone Owens Passed away on May 28, 2008 in Tacoma. Leone was born September 16, 1906 at the family home on South Clement Street in South Tacoma and lived in South Tacoma her entire life. She is from early Steilacoom/Tacoma families: a descendant of the Chambers/Dougherty/Ramsdell line on her father's side of the family and of the Garland/ Isenberg line on her mother's side. She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Zina Ramsdell and Jeanetta May Isenberg Ramsdell, as well as sisters Bernice Ramsdell Holt (Johnny) and Betty Ramsdell Vickery (Jim) and brothers James Vanner Ramsdell (Jane) and Wallace Zina Ramsdell. Leone's husband William Wesley Owens died in Tacoma on April 10, 1974. Daughter Alice Diane Owens McGavick passed away January 20, 1992 in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and son-in-law James Hugh McGavick died May 18, 2005 in Sumner, Washington. She is survived by son David Wesley Owens of Tacoma, as well as grandchildren Diane Kuehny (Dale) of Lake Roosevelt, Kathy McGavick Berger (Steve) of Sumner, Kim DiLuzio of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Pat McGavick (Jeanne) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Megan McGavick of Puyallup, as well as eight great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter. Also surviving are sister-in-law Bernice Cedarquist Ramsdell of Tacoma, as well a 10 nieces and nephews, and their children. Leone was a longtime member since 1925 of White Clover/Vida Chapter, Order of Eastern Star having held several positions including worthy matron, deputy instructor and grand representative. She was baptized in Sprague Memorial Presbyterian Church and since 1955 has been a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she served as president of the Women's Society as well as other positions. Family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the staff of OHCR Manor Care' in South Tacoma for their attentive care to Mother during her two and a half year stay, as well as thanks to the many friends and family members who regularly visited with Mother during her stay. Interment will be at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., Lakewood on June 3, 2008 at 11:00 am in the Garden Chapel. A reception will follow the service.
