Alfred Sortland's Obituary
Alfred Sortland
Tacoma resident Alfred Sortland passed away peacefully at his son's home on January 6th, 2013 at the age of 96. Alfred was born on January 28, 1916 in Bremnes, Norway. He was a member of the Norwegian Merchant Marines before immigrating to the United States in 1957, where he found work as a marine carpenter.
Once established, he had his family immigrate in 1960. He remained a marine carpenter until retirement. Alfred had many passions such as fishing, going on road trips, and many journeys back to his homeland.
Alfred was preceded in passing by Bertha, his wife for 63 years, and his son Kaare. He is survived by his two sons, Nils (Geri) and Oskar (Sonja), his 7 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, and his 10 great-grandchildren, for whom he had an extra-special love. He will be a much missed father, grandpa, and "old grandpa" as the younger kids liked to call him.
Alfred is being laid to rest at Mountain View Memorial Park & Cemetery, where a family graveside service will be held.
Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
