Alexandre Sergueev
Sergueev Alexandre, age 94, died September 1, 2020, after a three-week battle with COVID-19. He was a native of the Siberian village Bazhenovo, Russia, where he was the first-born son and the second of 15 children born to Ivan and Anna Sergeev.
At the age of 17, he was recruited into the Russian army and fought in an artillery unit in World War II, bravely attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He demobilized in 1947, returned to Siberia, and graduated from Stalinsky Metallurgical Institute in 1958 with a degree in metallurgical technology.
He subsequently worked as an engineer at Novolipetsky Metallurgical plant in Lipetsk, and later as the superintendent of a resort for the workers of the plant.
In 1992, he immigrated to the US with his wife and in 1997, he became a US citizen. An avid chess player, fisherman, cook, singer, and reader, he also wrote poetry, studied English, and collected Russian documentaries and movies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Anna Sergeev, by his wife Alexandra Polyanskaya, and by his 12 siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Elena Gleyzer (ex-husband Dr. Roman Gleyzer) of Tacoma, his granddaughter Elizabeth Gleyzer of Tacoma, and his brothers Vladimir Sergueev of Boca Raton, FL, and Sergey Sergeev of Kerch, Russia.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 12:30 p.m., Mountain View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
