Albert "Gene" Ehlers' Obituary
Albert E. "Gene" Ehlers, 87, of Tacoma, WA, born to Louis John Albert Ehlers and Bessie Rebecca Garnett, died Saturday, November 7, 2015, surrounded by his family.
In 1987, Gene retired from U.S. West. He was a lifetime member of both the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Tacoma Trail Cruisers Motorcycle Club. In addition, he had a lifelong passion for making and flying model airplanes. He was a member of the Rainier RC Club and Puget Sound ROC Club. From ensuring positive working conditions for his employees and co-workers, to building trail systems in Capitol Forest, and creating runways and safe viewing areas for observers, he left every organization stronger than when he joined it.
He is lovingly survived by Helen, his wife of 67 years; son, Dennis (Arlee); daughters Karen Edmondson, Barbara Hutchinson (Jon “Hutch”, passed in 2006), and Kathy Brock (Frank); and cherished greatly by his eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He leaves a legacy of adventurous living and generosity that will be carried on by those who loved him. Please take a moment to share a favorite memory, or condolence, with the family on the Tribute Wall. In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, please send donations to your favorite charity.
