Albert Franklin Cushon's Obituary
Celebrating the Life of Albert Franklin Cushon Born in Camden, Alabama to Ethel and Albert Cushon Sr., Albert was the oldest of five children and was given the name Albert Jr. His siblings from this union are: Woodrow (Marion), Delores (Edmond-deceased), J. Winston -deceased (Alice), and Delma (Darlene). After the death of his mother Albert Sr. married Beatrice who had a son Homer (Shirley); from their union came Veronica (Raymond).A close knit family, they were raised in Pensacola, Florida where Albert graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945 where he changed his name to Albert Franklin Cushon and served his country honorably for 22 years including World War II before he retired. His tours of duty included the Philippines, Japan, Europe and multiple sites in the United States. After military service he worked for the state of Washington as a Juvenile Counselor and Correctional Officer for 20 years as a second career. Albert was a man with an infectious smile that loved life, family, and people. He considered no one a stranger; he always offered his friendship and council to anyone. Two of his favorite hobbies were cooking and entertaining. He was famous for his secret recipe sweet potato pies and his tender smoked barbequed ribs. A man of wisdom and an avid reader of reports, studies, and surveys he loved high tech toys, gadgets, and tools. (Costco was his main hang-out!) Albert was a long-time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 48 years, Lilla June, two daughters, Juwana Delaney (Allen), LaTonya Cushon-Dillard (John), a son, Albert Kelker Cushon (Debra); grandchildren: Willie Cleveland, Christa and Zachary Cushon, and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Diabetes Association. Memorial Service to be held at 11:00 AM, December 4th 2003 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4818 Portland Avenue, Tacoma, Washington.
