Albert Elvin Taylor's Obituary
Born May 10, 1920 in Harbor City, California. He passed away peacefully March 30, 2003. He is survived by his wife Ethelda G., sons Don (Wendy), John (Donna), grandson Jeffrey and great-grandson Zachary.Bert and Ethelda met Sept. 17, 1940 in Olympia, WA and were married there on Sept. 17, 1941, happily sharing 61 years together.Bert enlisted in the Army on June 26, 1940 at Ft. MacArthur, California, and was assigned to the 60th Signal Co. and 3rd Signal CO. at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He served with the 3rd Div. in the North African Campaign. He was seriously wounded in Morocco on Nov. 13, 1942, and returned for medical attention at Walter Reed General Hospital, Washington, D.C. He was decorated by Major General Leslie McNair with the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and other services related medals. Bert was given an Honorable Discharge on Dec. 19, 1944. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V.At the WWII Veterans memorial area in Olympia, WA a stone plaque has been placed to honor Bert, itÂ's #17.Bert was a Life Member of Joseph Warren Lodge #235. He served as Master of the Lodge from Dec. 11, 1974 to Dec. 17, 1975. He was also a member of the Afifi Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite since June 6, 1970, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. After being discharged from the Army, Bert worked for the Belt Line until it closed, then at Northwest Door, and then St. Regis Plywood Division until it closed. He returned to work with Tacoma Transit/ Pierce Transit, retiring in May 1984. Bert was always active with Scouting and community affairs.Memorial services are to be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday April 5, 2003 in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, please send a remembrance to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd., Portland, Oregon 97201.The family wished to express their loving gratitude to the staff at Allenmore Hospital and Orchard Park Care Center for their caring support.
