Albert E Bacon's Obituary
Albert Edward Bacon, 89, of Tacoma passed away peacefully on January 28, 2017. Albert was born on January 3, 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida. Albert was the oldest child of the late Albert Lee Bacon and Amy Louise Bradford Bacon. He was a graduate of Stanton High School. In 1948 he joined the US Air Force serving as an airborne radio operator. He was a Korean War veteran. Albert worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller all over the state of Alaska and then moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1970. He was married to Keiko Ohashi for 12 years and they had 3 children.
From his early years and throughout his career he had a passion for anything to do with radio communications and computers. He was an avid HAM radio operator and during his lifetime his call letters N7AEB were answered by more than 100 countries, from every continent, and every state in the US. He received many awards for his excellence as an amateur radio operator. He gave his children call letters as well and taught them the Morse code. Albert went to HAM Radio Club meetings in Tacoma for many years. His friend Randy picked him up and took him every Saturday. Albert was very tech savvy, understanding computers when the only ones available for home use were the Commodore computers. He enthusiastically shared his knowledge with his children, nieces, and nephews, teaching them how to play computer games using the MS-DOS system. Albert’s other hobbies included photography and gardening. He had a green thumb and particularly enjoyed starting and growing African Violets. He was a faithful member of the Holy Cross Church. He looked forward to his friend Dick picking him up for church on Sundays.
