Agatha Blank Nichols' Obituary
Devoted Mother and Grandmother and Great Grandmother
Agatha Nichols, 84, passed away Saturday, May 17th, in a peaceful home. Born in Bridger, Montana, August 26, 1929, the third daughter of Anton and Eva (Roth) Blank.
Agatha’s family moved to Bremerton at the beginning of WWII, where she graduated from “The Immaculate Girls Catholic High School” in Seattle, WA. Following high school she attended Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a RN in 1950 and working at the hospital until 1952 when she married Calvin (Bud) Nichols. Together they raised four wonderful children. When the children were in high school she returned to work at St. Joe’s for several years.
Agatha was a very outgoing person who loved to sing and dance. She loved the ocean, and spent many vacations there, camping in tents with her children and friends. She loved to read “Janet Evanovich” novels, watch “John Wayne” movies and listen to “Johnny Cash.” She was an avid gardener and spent many hours in her yard. In her later years she made many beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family during the holidays.
Preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Eva (Roth) Blank, her brother, Robert Blank, sister, Margret Draper, and loving husband, Calvin (Bud) Nichols.
She is survived by her sister, Florence Vitai of San Diego, CA, brother Lt. Colonel Ret. Emanuel (Ed) Blank of Chandler AZ, son Steven (Sue Ellen) Nichols of Tacoma, WA, son Michael (Claudia) Nichols of Prosser, WA, daughter Jody Ulrich (Mark) of Mattawa, WA and son Mark Nichols of Seattle, WA, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the Weatherly Inn and the English Rose Manor for their exceptional dedication and care of mom the last five years.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Josephs School of Nursing Alumni Foundation. Send to Franciscan Foundation, PO Box 1502, Tacoma, WA 98401 with reference to the foundation.
