Mom would often use a quote her mother used with her when things weren't always going the way she wished they would: "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride." She was always curious about the origins of that saying. So Mom, here you go. It is an English language proverb and nursery rhyme, originating in the 16th century, which suggests if wishing could make things happen, then even the most destitute people would have everything they wanted.
Wonderful, beautiful mother. I knew her in the Azores. She managed a large family with grace, love and absolute charm. She will be missed by her family.
This beautiful lady was our neighbor when we lived in the Azores. I remember her as a beautiful, loving lady to all who knew her. My condolences to her family.
